San Benito Man in Jail After Standoff
SAN BENITO – A San Benito man remains in county jail after an alleged drive-by shooting that led to a brief standoff.
Police say Eduardo Herrera Jr. allegedly shot at property on Camino Angosto early Saturday morning. Someone called in a tip with a description of Herrera’s car. Officers later found it parked at his apartment on Stenger Road.
Herrera refused to speak with officers and remained in his apartment for nearly two hours before giving up without incident. Police tell us they were concerned at the time because two women and five children were inside Herrera’s apartment.
No one was hurt. Herrera faces several charges.
Teen Robbery Suspect to Go Before Judge
EDINBURG – A teen accused in a violent robbery at an Edinburg Stripes store is set to go before a judge today. Police are still looking for his brother.
Police say 17-year-old Jaime Perez fired a shot at the store after a beer run. He’s also facing charges for an unrelated drive-by shooting.
Investigators are still looking for his brother, 20-year-old Esteban Martinez.
Police say Martinez and another suspect tried to steal two 18 packs of beer from the Stripes then got into a violent fight with store employees.
Officers say Perez was waiting outside and then fired the shot.
2 Arrested in Halloween Drive-By Shooting
PHARR – Police arrested two people after a drive-by shooting near a Halloween festival in Pharr.
Jose Hernandez, 19, and a juvenile were charged with attempted murder.
Police said someone opened fired at a home on the 500 block of Hawk Street.
The victim is still recovering from his injuries after being shot in the leg.
The drive-by shooting happened just a block from the Pharr Boys & Girls Club, where a Halloween festival was being held.
